Hearts on Ozgames.io is a classic trick-taking card game. Unlike most games where you want to score high, the goal here is to finish with the lowest score by avoiding penalty cards.

How Hearts Game Works

The game is played with four players and a standard 52-card deck. Each round, you aim to avoid taking "tricks" that contain Hearts or the Queen of Spades.

Matches begin with players passing three cards to an opponent. The player with the 2 of Clubs leads the first trick. You must follow the suit led if possible. If you don't have that suit, you can discard any card, except a Heart or the Queen, on the very first turn. It is a game of memory and careful card management.

Managing Penalty Points and Rules

Success in Hearts depends on how you handle specific "point" cards.

  • The Heart Penalty: Each Heart card you take in a trick adds 1 point to your score. Taking too many will ruin your ranking.
  • The Queen of Spades: This is the most dangerous card, worth 13 points. Players usually try to "smoke it out" early or pass it away during the trade phase.
  • Breaking Hearts: You cannot lead a trick with a Heart until someone has already discarded one on a previous trick (this is called "breaking" Hearts).
  • Shooting the Moon: If you manage to collect all 13 Hearts and the Queen of Spades, your score for that round becomes 0, while every opponent receives 26 points.

Practical Tactics for Low Scores

  • Dump High Cards: Try to get rid of your high Spades and Hearts early so you aren't forced to take a trick later in the round.
  • Short-Suiting Strategy: Run out of one suit (like Diamonds) quickly. This allows you to discard penalty cards when others lead that suit.
  • Watch the Spades: Pay attention to who is playing high Spades. If the Queen of Spades hasn't appeared, be careful playing the Ace or King of Spades.
  • Stopping the Moon: If you see one player taking every point card, they are likely trying to Shoot the Moon. You must take at least one Heart to stop them.
